Premade Campaign 03: The Womb of Death (3/3)

The Womb of Death intended for Epic level characters and is Part 3 in a 3 Part Series.

Premade Campaign 02: The Warlord Lah-Karoo ended with the party finally ending the devastation caused by the Warlord and saving their kingdom, but that doesn’t mean the tale is over. At level 21 the party is now epic, and known throughout the world as the slayer of immortals (they don’t have to know Lah-Karoo was faking it, if he was). This has painted them a target for rival adventurers trying to make their name in the world, and they are under constant attack.

Most of the time it is a small time fool, that they can easily bash and send packing, but from time to time they are finding themselves under attack by enemies that rival their power. To make matters worse, a cult has formed calling themselves “The Womb of Death,” with plans to resurrect Lah-Karoo into the body of a god so that his plan could be fulfilled. Some of the remnants from the Warlord’s old armies are still battering the castle walls, the party has assassins after them on a consistent basis, and their greatest foe may be back, and stronger than he has ever been before – what can they do?

The assassins trying to dethrone the party are not as random and rag-tag as they may seem, and they are actually hired by the Womb of Death – apparently the blood of the slayer is a vital ingredient to bringing back their dead lord, and whoever scored the final blow is their main target.

If the party is able to figure this out, they may be able to stop the resurrection, only having to deal with the old armies and the Womb of Death’s priests themselves, but if the any of the assassination attempts are able to bloody the slayer they have all they need to bring Lah-Karoo back from the dead. There are two paths that this campaign can go in, but they are more dependant on the party’s actions (which can be manipulated by clever DMing, of course).

1. The party is successful in stopping the resurrection: Each of the high-priests of the Womb of Death are powerful mages, and the “shell” that they hoped to bring Lah-Karoo back into is that of an ancient, Runescribed Dracolich, whose phylactery is being held hostage by the priests. Since reviving the Warlord is not an option, they decide to instead follow out his wishes by returning the phylactery in return for the Dracolich destroying the party. It travels to the group’s original village and begins its rampage, awaiting the arrival of its feast.

2. The party is unsuccessful in stopping the resurrection: Lah-Karoo is birthed back into the world, more powerful than he was before, and begins amassing larger armies than before. The party must fulfill their destinies by destroying the immortal Dragonborn, who has called Ancient Wyrms to his side. The armies of the world are at their disposal, but it may not be enough. The party feels a strange voice calling to them from the mountains, though, as a Red Dragon is calling out to them, for the same magic that brought the Warlord his immortality resonates on the ones who killed him originally.

Let me know if you try this campaign out, and what path you decide to take! Check back tomorrow for another Heroic Premade Campaign!
